Push-In Relay Test - Play Ball - Phoenix Contact

http://www.phoenixcontact.com/ptrelay

Play Ball!

We tested our PLC PT Relay push-in termination technology by hitting some baseballs. Some studies show that exit speeds of a hit baseball leaving a baseball tee could be 95 miles per hour or greater. We wanted to see how the retention force of our technology would hold up to the force of a hit baseball. After slugging some baseballs, this test helped prove that our PLC PT Relays have an awesome retention force. The wire connection stayed intact with no backing out.

PLC PT Relays equipped with our push-in termination technology have a reliable, long lasting connection, ideal for high vibration applications. The retention force is five times the IEC requirement. Terminations are made by simply pushing the ferruled wire into the PT terminal, using very little force. No specialized tools are required, which helps reduce installation time and costs. The PT relays ensure faster wiring, up to 60 percent faster than the screw termination style. To disconnect the wire, simply insert a screwdriver into the orange release key, push and release the wire. Our push-in technology creates a high degree of usability and includes a wide range of connections; from 26 AWG to 14 AWG wire sizes.

Leviton Whole House Surge

Visit: http://www.leviton.com/wholehousesurge

To some, whole house surge protection is achieved simply by installing a surge protective breaker or panel at the home's main breaker load center(s). However, true whole house surge protection requires surge protective devices at various levels within the home to provide the most reliable protection - a surge protection network if you will.

UL - a global independent safety company that tests for and certifies product safety - has categorized surge protective devices into various Types to indicate their specific performance characteristics and areas of usage. A true whole house surge protection network requires three Types of surge protective devices to effectively protect sensitive electrical and electronic equipment from the damaging effects of voltage surges.

11 UGE Wind Turbines Power a Sustainable University in Texas

11 vertical axis wind turbines by Urban Green Energy - eight UGE-4Ks and three of the newly released UGE-9Ms - were installed in Corpus Christi. The project marked the first installation of the UGE-9M, UGE's biggest and most powerful turbine.

"A number of our faculty members have expressed great interest in this Project and the learning opportunities that it presents, for example, Dr. Karayaka, an advisor on the project, is in charge of teaching an interdisciplinary Energy Conversion course. Through the use of these wind turbines and their data acquisition and diagnostics systems, the key technical concepts in regards to the renewable energies and especially wind energy conversion can be taught to these students." - 3eWerks

The turbines are manufactured at UGE's state-of-the-art factory. The turbines are quieter than a refrigerator and are an aesthetically pleasing addition to any location. All of the turbines are mounted on galvanized steel, hurricane-rated stationary towers, a must considering the campus' location on the Gulf Coast.

Perfect for large-scale commercial applications, the UGE-9M and UGE-4K make an impressive environmental statement while offsetting massive energy costs.

Operation of a home standby generator system & automatic transfer switch - by Cummins Onan

This video gives a general overview of working and automatic operation of an emergency power backup generator and transfer switch by Cummins Onan.

An average home may use more than a hundred electrical appliances and devices to provide convenience, comfort and security. A residential generator has major advantages over a portable gen set- automatic start, permanent fixture, more power, cleaner fuel (natural gas or propane), low running costs and all-weather operation. Standby power systems start automatically with seconds after a home's electricity goes out and ensure a continuous electrical supply.

A Transfer Switch immediately senses when power is interrupted and transfers power generation to generator. It also senses when power is restored and transfers the load back to the utility source and signals the generator to shut down. The power generator is installed outdoors and linked directly to home's permanent fuel supply. The Service Entrance Breaker provides protection to your transfer switch, internal breakers and circuits and generator due to electrical strikes and power surges.

Leviton's new SmartlockPro Outlet Branch Circuit (OBC) AFCI Receptacle offers added protection from potentially hazardous arc-faults resulting from damage in branch circuit wiring as well as extensions to branches such as appliances and cord sets. By detecting hazardous arc-faults and responding by interrupting power, the SmartlockPro OBC AFCI Receptacle helps reduce the likelihood of the home's electrical system being an ignition source of a fire.

Leviton OBC AFCI Receptacles are designed to recognize many types of hazardous arc-faults. Often unseen, arc-faults can occur anywhere in the home's electrical system including within walls, at loose electrical connections or within electrical cords accidently damaged by impinging furniture.

AFCI's are now required by the National Electrical Code® in many areas of the home including bedrooms, family rooms, dining rooms, living rooms, sunrooms, closets, hallways and similar rooms or areas.
